The Parks & Community Services Board advises City Council on parks and open space issues such as:

  • Natural resources, land stewardship and environmental education

The Board also advises the City Council on policies regarding community services issues such as: 

  • Recreation opportunities for a wide range of interests, ages and abilities
  • Cultural diversity
  • Community centers
  • Parks & Community Services Department related special events.

Aug 2015 - Present Board Member, Board of Directors, LifeWire

LifeWire has been providing domestic violence services and programs to the community since 1982. We have grown to become one of Washington State's largest domestic violence service providers and a recognized leader in the field. We work closely with the local and regional human service agencies to provide life-saving and life-changing programs and services to help victims and their children separate safely from an abuser, restore trust, develop self-sufficiency and build peaceful families. www.lifewire.com

 
 

January 2015 - Present Chair Public Affairs Committee, Bellevue Chamber of Commerce

The Public Affairs Committee frequently begins the organizational advocacy process for the Bellevue Chamber. Business people interested in making a difference and having their voice heard in statewide initiatives, regional planning efforts and Bellevue-focused policy topics should definitely attend Public Affairs Committee meetings. Committee Chair Jared Nieuwenhuis is a Bellevue resident and marketing director at Her Interactive, also based in Bellevue. The mission of The Sophia Way is to help end homelessness for single adult women in King County, by providing shelter, life skills training, social services and supportive permanent housing, offering a pathway for homelessness to a home of their own.
